Mother of Kargil Hero Captain Vikram Batra, Kamal Kant Batra, passes away at 77

Kamal Kant Batra, the mother of Kargil war hero Captain Vikram Batra, has died at the age of 77 in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh. She was also a former leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Condolences and political involvement

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed his condolences on the demise of Mrs. Kamal Kant Batra. Kamal Kant Batra was known for contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, representing the AAP in 2014. However, she resigned from the party after a short stint due to dissatisfaction with its organizational structure.

Legacy of Captain Vikram Batra

Captain Vikram Batra, popularly known as 'Sher Shah,' was renowned for his bravery during the Kargil war, where he lost his life fighting Pakistani forces at the age of 24. His courageous actions earned him the highest wartime gallantry award, the Param Vir Chakra, along with several other titles such as 'Tiger of Drass' and 'Lion of Kargil.' His famous victory slogan 'Yeh Dil Mange More' became iconic across the nation.

Early life and military service

Born on September 9, 1974, in Palampur, Captain Vikram Batra completed his education in Chandigarh before joining the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun in 1996. He excelled in his military training, earning accolades such as the Instructor's Grade during a Commando Course in Karnataka. Rising through the ranks, Captain Vikram Batra made his last phone call to his mother just days before his ultimate sacrifice in the Kargil war.
